The dates will be 11/12th June 2011 and the location will be Pelsall Wood Common, off Wood Lane, Pelsall.
The campaigning aims of the event are to ensure greater use of the BCN and to promote their benefits to all the community. This event was postponed from 2010 because of concerns following the dewatering of Chasewater Reservoir but thanks to improved management of water resources, British Waterways is confident that it can proceed in 2011.
The location has been used previously for successful waterways events and the organisers are confident that a warm welcome and full support will be received from the local community. Boaters will have the opportunity to join a BCN Explorer Cruise on their way to the Festival.
Graham Whorton, chairman of the BCNS says “With the proposed move of the inland waterways into a charitable trust, this Canal Festival will be particularly important in showing how valuable these canals are to local people and we are confident that it will be a good day out for all the family.”
The BCN Society, formed in 1968, exists to conserve, improve and encourage a wide range of interests in the 100 mile network of Birmingham and Black Country waterways known as the Birmingham Canal Navigations.
