Richard Benyon (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Natural Environment and Fisheries), Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; Newbury, Conservative)

British Waterways is carrying out financial analysis by preparing financial projections for the Canal and River Trust (CRT) based on various sets of assumptions. This analysis is work in progress and is not yet complete due to the ongoing negotiations between Government and the CRT transition Trustees on the funding agreement. A business plan will be prepared when the funding position is more certain.

Financial sustainability is assessed by projecting the future condition of the infrastructure assets and the standard of maintenance of the waterways and comparing these against target standards. The financial projections, projected future asset condition and maintenance standards will be considered by the CRT transition Trustees as part of their due diligence supporting the formation of the new Trust.
