After its legal and corporate services director Nigel Johnson announced plans to retire, the Canal & River Trust has appointed its first general counsel.
Nigel will be replaced by the Trust’s current head of legal, Jackie Lewis. Having joined British Waterways in 2001 and being promoted into the head of legal role in 2007, she will now take on the newly-established general counsel position.
Johnson is set to leave the organisation at end of 2013, after almost 14 years as its legal director. He took up the post in 2000, and remained in the position as British Waterways transitioned into the Canal & River Trust in 2012.
