A handful of volunteers have cut back overhanging bushes, pulled out weeds and tidied the waterfront towpath in Leeds city centre.
Environment Agency volunteers and Leeds residents worked with British Waterways and Aire Action Leeds along a stretch of waterfront to the east of the city to improve the area for local residents and visitors. Volunteers cleared vegetation from the cobbles and footpaths, removed litter, painted new structures and made improvements to the footpath surface.
Rachel Clunas, Aire Action Leeds Project Officer, said the event had been a success and had been motivated by the Leeds Year of Volunteering 2010 project as August is the month of volunteering for the environment.
Volunteers worked on a stretch of waterfront between the back of Royal Armouries at Clarence Dock and the South Accommodation Road bridge.
